The Cañon City Area Recreation and Park District contracted with Terracon Consultants, Inc. in November of 2018 to conduct a site audit of the R.C. Icabone Swimming Pool. This is a company of professional engineers specializing in public pools. In business for over 50 years, they design new pools and remodel older facilities. They have worked on thousands of pools throughout the country, including a recent $6 million remodel project in Rifle. The purpose of the audit was to give the Board of Directors at the Recreation District a professional review of the condition of the R.C. Icabone Pool, which opened in 1967. The original life expectancy of the pool was between 25 and 30 years, and we have been open for 56-years. This is a credit to the hard work of District staff over that period of time. This site audit gave the Board details of the current condition of the pool, what areas need to be addressed, accurate cost estimates to make needed repairs, estimates on the time frame in which we will need to make those repairs, and informed cost amounts to replace the pool. All of the cost estimates were verified by Terracon and are accurate with 2018 pricing.
