In the fall of 2017 the Recreation District, along with the City of Cañon City, Fremont County, St. Thomas More Hospital, Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, and REC (Recreation Enhances our Community) partnered to have a feasibility study conducted to see if our community would support a year round Aquatics and Recreation Center.
The study was completed in the winter of 2019 by Ballard-King, and presented to the listed agencies and the public. The study found our community to be borderline in supporting a center, but it was close enough to advise us to keep moving forward through the process. REC is currently leading the charge for a center and several public meetings have been held. The first was on August 6, 2019 at the Cañon City High School Auditorium. The public was encouraged to attend to make their thoughts known.
